Suit Buying Guide

The right dry diving suit is more than just clothing; it’s your first line of defence in challenging and hazardous environments. At Fortis Safety LTD, we supply the VIKING™ range of professional-grade suits, trusted worldwide for
their certified protection, exceptional durability and custom options.

This guide outlines the essential factors to consider before making your choice, but as always please contact us for any further help.

1. Define Your Operating Environment
Where and how your suit will be used will determine its required features.  Chemical or Biohazard Protection is required for contaminated water, hazardous chemicals or biological risks so choose a suit designed and tested for these exact hazards.  If you are unsure on the water contamination for recreational diving we recommend a CE certified suit to be safe and protected in unknown environments.
The VIKING™ dry diving suit range contains a variety of protection options but as a quick guide:
PRO- EN14225-2 with BIO
PROTECH II, HD, Divers Dress and Haztech- EN14225-2 with BIO (EN 14126) and HZ (ISO 6529)
VTS and WRS-D - EN14225-2
WRS- PPE Regulations
2. Check Product Certification – Not Just Claims
Sadly not all safety statements are legitimate. Some products claim to be “CE Approved”—a term with no legal meaning. What matters is CE Certification, which requires thorough testing against strict European standards.  Copies of CE Certificates can be provided on request and are available through the manufacturers website www.ansell.com
  • Tip: In hazardous environments, certification is non-negotiable—you and your crews safety depends on it.  EN14225-2 does not cover BIO and HZ; these are additional testing requirements.
3. Match the Suit to Your Respiratory Equipment
Your respiratory setup, whether full-face mask, surface-supplied breathing apparatus or SCUBA system, must integrate seamlessly with your suit. The VIKING range offers configurations designed for compatibility with a wide variety of breathing systems and helmets.
4. Explore Customisation Options
A well-fitted, fully equipped suit improves both comfort and performance whilst not compromising on safety.  The majority of our suits come in three widths as well as five sizes offering an extensive range for all people.  Whilst offering standard suits
(dive ready) the VIKING™ range offers a full spectrum of options on all components creating a portfolio of hundreds of configurations for every divers requirements.  Options include:
  • Various neck seal materials
  • Integrated or detachable hoods
  • Cuffs & cuff ring systems for glove attachment
  • Utility pockets for tools and essentials
  • Relief zippers for long-duration operations
  • Sock and boot styles
5. Consider Material Durability
A high-performance suit must withstand your working environment with the material and seam construction playing a vital role in the integrity and longevity of wear.  VIKING™ suits are built from premium-grade materials resistant to abrasion, punctures and chemical degradation (HZ range), extending operational life and reliability.  The suits are also easy to clean down post-use and are repairable with the VIKING™ repair kit and we also offer the option to send the suit direct to the manufacturing facilities for full repairs and testing.
6. Evaluate Suit Weight
Mobility and comfort are important components of the working environment.  Environmental temperatures, both in and out of the water, can influence the suit preferences especially on weight.  For cold environments the VIKING™ Hot Water Suit is an ideal solution and we are particularly impressed with the  VIKING™ HAZTECH suit for warmer environments. The VIKING HAZTECH meets CE EN14225-2 BIO and HZ standards and is approximately one-third of the weight of other suits in its class.  This reduced weight means less fatigue, greater agility and improved safety in extended operations and hotter climates.
